I have to wonder. . .

I have to wonder just how hard Tom Steever and Ken Anderson were working at Cattle Industry Conference, when these pictures showed up mysteriously in my inbox.

Tom explains that the first picture was taken when he was addressing a general session at Cattle Industry Convention:

In case the context of the first shot is elusive, I told the audience during my ‘market cast’ at the general session that my friends would never believe that I’d spoken to so many people. I pulled out my camera and this is the result.

Tom is playing with the camera again.  This one just might be my favorite:

Honestly,  I know how hard they are working because I’ve listened to the radio reports and read the stories they have posted.  You can catch some of the coverage on the Brownfield website.

He’s everywhere!

Everywhere!  That’s where Brownfield Ag News Tom Steever is this week.  Tom started the week in Las Vegas at the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) where he moderated the special awards banquet.  We have proof he was there, as he sent this picture that he took from the podium:

There is also this picture of a rather strange looking dessert that was served. . .

And apparently he did have his journalist cap on while there, because there is a picture of Tom interviewing NACD President Gene Schmidt.

From Vegas, Tom flew to Nashville, Tennessee for the Cattle Industry Convention (CIC) where Brownfield’s Ken Anderson was already hard at work covering the event. (Brownfield’s coverage of CIC is sponsored once again this year by Novartis Animal Health.)

Tom, as President of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) brought greetings to the CIC from NAFB and from Brownfield. Thanks to Chuck Zimmeran with AgWired for sharing this picture of Tom at the very large and interesting microphone podium. . .

Friday visitor

Becki Rhoades, Marketing and Communications Director for the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) was “in the house” Friday to meet with the Brownfield Ag News Sales Team and NAFB President Tom Steever.

Pictured, left to right: Becki Rhoades, Jennifer Shinkle, Jeff Stratman, Laurie Bonnot, Tom Steever, Anita Vanderwert, Joyce Steinman, and John Baker at Prison Brews Restaurant in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Is it just me, or do you think maybe NAFB has adopted new “team colors?”

Hard at work in Hawaii. . .

The American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting is underway in Honolulu this week.  Brownfield’s Tom Steever is there.  Brownfield’s Ohio Farm Director, Dave Russell, shares this:

“So, I send Tom Steever an email thanking him for the interview with Ohio Farm Bureau Federation President Steve Hirsh and mentioned he should get back to the beach. His reply, “too late,” and here’s the proof. Before I say anything about Tom’s legs, I’m going to work up a story from the interview. . .”

That sounds like a good story, but we all know Tom well enough to know that he wouldn’t “hit the beach” until the work was done.  Or in this case, Tom and his wife took a little pre-convention vacation time to explore the Hawaiin islands together.  I’m 99.9% certain this picture was taken before American Farm Bureau Federation Convention began!

Way to go Ken, Julie and Tom!

Three Brownfield Ag News Broadcast Council members of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) were recognized during the awards ceremony at the organization’s annual convention held last week in Kansas City, Mo. Ken Anderson and Julie Harker received awards for news reporting and Tom Steever received tenure recognition.

Ken Anderson, headquartered in Lincoln, Neb. received Editor’s Choice Award for Exceptional Merit from the NAFB News Service for providing accurate and timely information on a variety of issues. The NAFB News Service is a source of news and information to farm broadcasters representing more than 1,800 radio stations nationwide.

Julie Harker, based in Jefferson City, Mo. received third Place in the NAFB Newscast Awards. Each year more than 140 NAFB Broadcast Council members throughout the United States are asked to participate in the award process. Broadcasters are required to send a produced newscast that aired on a specific day chosen by the NAFB and a CD is compiled from all the entries. The Awards Committee assembles a panel of farmers to select the winning newscasts.

Tom Steever received a tenure award for 35 years as a member of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. Tom will serve as President of NAFB in 2012.

All dressed up

The National Association of Farm Broadcasting Annual Convention came to a close Friday night.  Tom Steever takes over as President of the NAFB in 2012.  Part of the festivities Friday night included a formal “passing of the gavel” to the Brownfield farm broadcaster.  Dave Russell, Meghan Grebner and Tom Steever got all ”gussied up” for the big event.

Dave is a past Regional Vice President for the organization and Meghan is currently East Region Vice President.

Old friends passing through

Brownfield’sTom Steever, prior to joining Brownfield Ag News in 2003, spent several years working on the public relations team with the American Farm Bureau Federation.  He speaks very highly of the man he worked for at AFBF, Stewart Truelsen.

We were all pleased to welcome Stewart, former Director of Broadcast Services for the American Farm Bureau Federation and Tom McCosky, Videographer, formerly with the American Farm Bureau Federation for a short visit to Brownfield’s Jefferson City, Missouri studios today.

We couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a photo of Tom between his former and current bosses:

NAFB Staffers visit Brownfield

With National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) Convention just a couple of weeks away, Brownfield’s Tom Steever, NAFB President-Elect, is working with the NAFB staff to put finishing touches on convention planning.  NAFB Executive Director Tom Brand and the newest member of the NAFB staff, Becki Rhoades, Marketing and Communications Director, are visiting Tom and other Brownfielders in the Jefferson City, Missouri studios/offices today.
